Frieda Sulsona pushed her husband’s old wheelchair down the aisle of the Lowe’s Home Improvement Store in Staten Island, New York. Michael Sulsona was a former Marine who had lost both of his legs in the Vietnam War. He’d been waiting for a new wheelchair from the VA for two years.

A distraught Malagasy woman carried her listless toddler to Koffi, a Mercy Ships volunteer from Benin. The child’s skin was hot to touch. It could be malaria, but the child’s mother had no money to have him tested at the local hospital. Koffi had limited financial resources but knew he had to do something.
