On March 26, 1982, Emogene Cup was among the crowd gathered on a grassy site in Washington, D.C., for a historic event — the groundbreaking ceremony for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The black wall is inscribed with the names of more than 58,000 Americans who were killed in Vietnam or remain missing.
